In fact, Spencer credits his inspiration to Carey Mercer. They used to be college roommates, and Krug says that Carey's ability to write what he felt so honestly is what got him to consider side projects. The singer you're hearing is Carey Mercer, the lead singer and song-writer for Frog Eyes. Krug, to my knowledge, functions only as keyboardist and occasional backing vocalist. Frog Eyes isn't a "Spencer Krug project."
